The use of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), which is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electrical impulses, has been around for many years. Recent advancements in these technologies have gained an increasing amount of attention due to their potential to improve muscle function, augment and optimise the training performance of athletes, and sculpt the physiques of healthy individuals alike.
The Cutera truSculpt flex is a next-generation electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device, approved by the US-FDA for improvement of muscle development, strength and tone to the abdominal muscles, buttocks and thighs; as well as improving posture and reducing back pain by up to 30%. It is a state of the art, non-surgical body contouring device that uses bio-electric multi-directional direct current muscle stimulation (MDS) in 3 different modes to stimulate targeted muscle group workout (abdominal, obliques, quadriceps, hamstrings and gluteus) at an intensity unachievable through conventional exercise alone, helping to add definition and tone desired by men and women alike. While results are less dramatic than conventional cosmetic surgery, it also has little to no downtime and treatments can often be done in-office within 45-90 minutes, with results visible in just two to three months.
Read on as The Aesthetic Studio Wellness brings us more about the use and effectiveness of the truSculpt flex and how when used in conjunction with a good diet and training, can help people with their fitness goals!
Who Should Use It?
The truSculpt flex can be used for any person in general good health, active or non-active individuals, seeking to tone, strengthen and develop their muscles with focal areas of concern. The treatment can be customised to each individual’s own fitness levels and goals. It is generally safe, but people with pre-existing health conditions, such as electrical implants, should check if they qualify for use.
Benefits of truSculpt flex
The truSculpt flex device utilises electrical stimulation that runs through a number of handpieces in order to stimulate the desired muscle part. These handpieces are strategically placed in various positions and layouts in order to optimise muscle stimulation. This allows for muscle stimulation that simulates traditional workouts at an accelerated intensity and increasing metabolic rate.
A 45-minute abdominal and oblique treatment is equivalent to doing 54,000 crunches. The treatment challenges and builds the muscle, in a way similar to strength and resistance training. During a truSculpt flex treatment, muscle fibres undergo trauma and get microscopic tears, which the body’s cells then attempt to repair through a process known as hypertrophy, which results in increasing muscle size and strength.
As the treatment begins, the intensity setting will slowly be increased and the muscle contraction intensifies. The intensity setting will be increased slowly and in a comfortable way in order to reach clinical results. This allows the patient to acclimate comfortably to the intensity and can be decreased quickly if desired by the patient. As the patient’s muscles become stronger, future treatments will usually have higher Intensity settings, which help with optimal muscular development.
The treatments are done in a comfortable and relaxing setting, have no downtime, and results are visible in as little as 4 sessions and continued improvements up to 3 months.
3 Types of Workouts
3 treatment modes are used to deliver three different workouts by replicating intensified squat, crunch and twisting actions.
-
Prep Mode: Prep Mode is only necessary for non-active patients (first 2 treatments). It creates a twisting motion to warm up, stretch the muscles and slowly build a tolerance to muscle contractions.
-
Tone Mode: Contracts the muscles and holds them to the point of exhaustion, followed by relaxing them to increase strength and enhance endurance.
-
Sculpt Mode: Fast, deep, sequential contractions of the muscles for building muscle mass.
Combining truSculpt flex with Proper Training and Nutrition
truSculpt flex offers a high level of intensity and an increase to the basal metabolic rate to provide accelerated muscle mass growth over traditional strength training and other muscle-sculpting technologies with limited fatigue or soreness. However, this treatment is not intended for and should not be used as a replacement for proper exercise. Proper exercise, together with a healthy diet should be done in conjunction with the treatments in order to optimise results. While hard work will still be necessary and there is no easy way out, truSculpt flex does make the journey to getting the ideal body a tad easier!
